Phil Cannella Interviews Alicia Munnell: Part 17

Phil Cannella – Phillip Cannella News

Phil Cannella: “Many people don’t realize it, and I’m sure you do.

Many people don’t realize, back in the 1920’s the average aged person on average lived to about 54, 55. Today it’s in the 80’s, and so people are actually retired longer than they worked in their career.  Do you see that as a challenge today?”

Alicia Munnell: “So certainly life expectancy has gone up.  I think those statistics worry me just a little bit because, in the old days there was a lot of deaths at child birth, and young children died, so what I really look at is the life expectancy at age 65.  You know gathering enough money to support yourself for an extended period of time is just an enormous challenge.”

Phil Cannella: “It sure is.”
